The Identikit Project

Every now and then a link gets sent round at work to some kind of online face-maker toy. Strangely, everyone always ends up trying to create an image of programmer Dave, who recently sadly departed from this realm (he quit and moved back to the south coast).

So to scientifically test the accuracy of online identikits I've gone through several of them and attempted to produce a recognisable representation of our ex-colleague. Here are the results:

Flash Face

The site that inspired this page, back at yet another server (hopefully to stay). Good likenesses are easily achieved, although the one displayed could be slightly better with more effort.

Daveometer: #########-

Pinstruck

Way too evil (and bald) to bear any resemblance. Dave's safe from the voodoo curse.

Daveometer: #---------

My Virtual Model

It's not a good likeness, with the hair and beard being more Italian playboy than laid-back coder, although for all I know the grey boxer shorts may well be correct.

Daveometer: ###-------

Make A Monster

Whoa.

Y'know, there's a bit of the essence of Dave in there. And I mean that as a compliment.

Daveometer: ###-------

Face Card

Faced with a stark choice between tufts of novelty facial hair and an explosion of curls I opted for the latter. At least if Dave doesn't shave for a few years and gets a perm it has a slim chance of becoming more accurate.

Daveometer: ##--------

Mini-Identikit

An impressively accurate poster from a measly 5120 bytes. It may be tiny, but the hair and features in this pixellated portrait are all vaguely recognisable.

Daveometer: #####-----

Shocked FaceMaker

He's neither an ancient Greek philosopher nor a 70s porn star, and so this bears little resemblance.

Daveometer: ###-------

Mini-Mizer

Superb accessories make up for a lack of detail in the face and body.

Daveometer: ######----

Hairstyle Runner

It may offer follicular flexibility, but unfortunately there was an insufficient amount available for this exercise.

Daveometer: ###-------

Propecia Identikit

Believe it or not, this is the best I could manage, but it still belongs solely on Crimewatch. Remember, blokes who look like this are rare, so don't have nightmares.

Build Your Own Wrestler

I managed to avoid it looking like Strong Bad, but it's hard to see Dave as a cartoon wrestler.

Daveometer: ##--------

Hero Machine

If Dave ever takes up bodybuilding and is later involved in a high-voltage electrical accident this may prove eerily prophetic. A reasonably wide range of hair/beard choices proved useful.

Daveometer: ######----

South Park Studio

Oh my God, they drew Dave! OK so it's not the most flattering picture, but if he went missing after a really wild night out and the police needed a recent photo it'd make a useful substitute.
